Dallas Tenor Scot Cameron Makes Music His Ministry

Dallas, Texas—With a voice that is uniquely stirring and evangelistic, Scot Cameron has quietly earned a national reputation for excellence in Christian music.  Raised in the mountains of North Carolina, Mr. Cameron was influenced by the Southern gospel music he heard as a child in his hometown of Boone. He credits his aunt, a gifted gospel singer herself, with helping him gain an early appreciation of music and its evangelistic possibilities.

At Appalachian State University in Boone, Scot helped organize and direct collegiate choirs while studying for his Bachelor of Arts in vocal performance and sacred music. He later moved to Fort Worth where he earned his Master of Arts Degree in music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Cameron entered full-time music evangelism in 1995.   He has since completed extended terms as Interim Minister of Music for Park Cities Baptist (Dallas), First Baptist Lubbock, Oakview Baptist (Irving), and First Baptist Grapevine.

  • "Seldom have I listened to any vocalist who has touched me so deeply as Scot Cameron," says Dr. Ken Hemphill, former president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. "God has blessed him with a winsome spirit and a beautiful voice.  When he sings of Christ, it is like an artist who paints a picture in your mind."

  • Jim Denison, pastor at Park Cities Baptist, Dallas says "...His amazing voice, passion for Jesus, heart for worship, and love for God's people have made him one of the finest worship leaders our church has ever known."

His lyrical yet classically trained voice allows Mr. Cameron the flexibility to sing a wide range of Christian music as tenor and counter-tenor. While this diversity does not lend itself to easy labels, it has afforded him a way to connect with a multitude of audiences.  His credits include a wide range of oratorio repertoire, but his interpretations of contemporary, gospel and traditional pieces are sung—sans vibrato—with equal power and conviction.

  • Oratorio - Messiah, Elijah, Samson, Haydn’s Creation,  Bach’s St. John Passion and
    B Minor Mas
    s, and  Beethoven’s 9th Symphony

  • Contemporary - You Raise Me Up, I Choose Jesus, I've Just Seen Jesus, I , and
    Were It Not for Grace.

  • Gospel classicsHis Eye is on the Sparrow, Midnight Cry  and I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy

  • Traditional classics - The Holy City, On Eagle's Wings and The Lord is My Light.

Mr. Cameron has crisscrossed the United States, singing with community orchestras and choruses as well as being featured in sacred performances at churches, workshops, and denominational conferences.  He has performed locally with the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra and Symphony, the Dallas Bach Society, the Spectrum Chamber Society, Austin Symphony Chorus, and the Orchestra of New Spain. Outside Texas and abroad, he has served as soloist for Concert Royal at the French Institute in New York City, Bach Sinfonia of Washington D.C.,the Orquestra Sinfonica y Coro de Radiotelevision Espanol in Madrid, Carmina Burana with the Sacramento Choral Society at Carnegie Hall and the Hallelujah Oratorio Society of Singapore.
